Education Roundtable?
– The Education Roundtable is an independent online platform that aims to gather stakeholders of Singapore’s education system – parents, teachers, administrators and students – and encourage constructive and continuous discourse on pertinent education issues.
– Every week, a topic of discussion (with a brief abstract) would be posted on the FaceBook page; thereafter, individuals are encouraged to take a stand, and respond in 150 words or less.
– Separate emails will also be sent to regular contributors to gather their perspectives.
– The most relevant entries will be published in form of a post every Wednesday on guanyinmiao’s musings (https://guanyinmiao.wordpress.com/), as well as on the FaceBook page. Participants can continue to converse through these channels.
– At the end of particular intervals, the opinions will be compiled and forwarded to the Ministry of Education for consideration.
What Is The Biggest Problem That Plagues Chinese Language Education?
“Unfortunately, the MOE’s bilingualism policy is excellent in principle but wholly poor in practice; and the inherent difficulties of the Chinese language compounds teaching-learning difficulties” (Read More). What do you think is the biggest problem that plagues Chinese language education, and what can stakeholders – students, teachers, parents, the MOE – do about it?
Given the importance of language education, and continuous efforts to promote Chinese-language learning, what is the biggest problem that plagues it, and how can we improve it? In 150 words or less, let us know your views on our FaceBook page: https://www.facebook.com/educationroundtable.
The FaceBook page can be accessed here: https://www.facebook.com/educationroundtable. Join us there to participate in our weekly discussions.
– Tuition: Is It A Real Necessity? Or A Perceived Necessity? (Read) With the growth of tuition, and corresponding tuition centres and tutors, we hear about perspectives on tuition in Singapore.
– Has Project Work In Junior Colleges Outlived Its Usefulness? (Read) We hear first-hand experiences from Junior College students – past and present – on the programme, and whether they think it remains necessary.

Too pedantic, and the content is culturally brainwashy, and students are sometimes not exposed to alternative material in Chinese that isn’t brainwashy (unlike how we have alternative material to the Straits Times) and so they associate brainwashing with Chinese, thus hating the language.
Hi Xinyuan,
Can I get you to post the comment on the FaceBook wall? Thanks!
Jin Yao
I think the Education Roundtable is a really good idea.
Keep up the good work!
