These two propositions can be true at the same time: That the Ministry of Education (MOE) could have improved its announcement about teachers having to pay for parking in schools, and that there has been an overreaction to the announcement on the Internet, which in turn does little to advance discourse on a broader range of challenges confronting much more or most teachers. Without firmer details about developments within the Workers’ Party – especially after “an unprecedented challenge to party chief Low Thia Khiang” (TODAY, Jun. 1) during the Central Executive Council elections, in which fellow Member of Parliament for Aljunied GRC Chen Show Mao secured more than two-fifths of the 106 votes – it is unfair to conclude whether the “internal rifts” are necessarily deleterious.
